Derby Trunk Show Kick-Off Tradition

Posted by Lyndsay on Apr 18th 2017

Today we were honored to have Kentucky's First Lady Glenna Bevin kick-off our Derby Hat Trunk Show at Nitro of Frankfort.

It's a longstanding tradition at Nitro of Frankfort for Kentucky’s first ladies to select a Derby hat to for a give-away in support of their chosen charity. The tradition started back in 1995 with First Lady Judi Patton. This year, Glenna Bevin chose a beautiful hat and selected Trooper Island as her charity of choice. A portion of all Derby hat proceeds will be donated there.

It must have been fate, she selected the only hat in the store that had a duplicate. So that means the lucky winner of the hat will receive an identical hat to the one that Glenna Bevin intends to wear at Churchill Downs. On May 4th, Nitro will draw for the winner of the white and khaki fascinator featuring a mix of ostrich and pheasant feathers that the First Lady hand-picked. You can register to win the hat by stopping in store and filling out a registration slip.

We are very excited to be donating a portion of all hat sales to Trooper Island.Trooper Island is a free summer camp for underprivileged boys and girls age 10-12 operated by the Kentucky State Police. Each year, the camp hosts approximately 700 children, providing good food, fresh air, recreation, guidance and structured, esteem-building activities designed to build good citizenship and positive relationships with law enforcement officers.

Don't forget to stop in store to register to win the Derby hat that was picked out by First Lady Glenna Bevin!
